Facebook Plans to Partner with Spotify and More for Music Service

Facebook, combining services with Spotify and others, plans to bring music to its users in an interface fully-integrated with their main services. Gigaom reports that the feature will likely include a Music tab where users now find Photos and Friends, which will lead to a Music Dashboard. Facebook’s music playback, run through companies like Spotify with Facebook Connect, will follow the user through their browsing just like the Facebook Chat function does.

The cloud-based music service will combine Facebook’s social networking with music apps they already run, making music as much a social activity as browsing friends’ photos or RSVPing to a group’s events. The Music Dashboard will integrate users’ music with their friends’ recommendations. Users will also get notifications when friends listen to songs they also like, and get instant feedback on what friends are listening to at that moment.
