Facebook buys sports social media company SportsStream

Facebook has acquired SportStream, a second screen company for sports that shows the best tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram photos, stats, and news for every game. Last month, Facebook select SportStream as an API partner for getting deeper access to sports data.

SportStream’s platform is called SportsBase. The platform provides partners with customized and engaging social media experiences for websites and app through an API and other customizable HTML components. Some of the current partners that use SportsBase includes the Seattle Seahawks, Michigan Athletics, Liverpool FC, Ask.com, Root Sports, and Steph Curry.

The terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.
