Facebook Working On Fixing Age Restriction Registration Following Marguerite Joseph Case

Posted Feb 21, 2013

Marguerite Joseph is a 104-year-old woman from Grosse Point Shores, Michigan.  Joseph has been active on Facebook for several years, but she is unable to post her actual age on the website because it is over 99.  Joseph is legally blind so her granddaughter Gail Marlow updates her profile page for her every day and responds to her messages.

Marlow said that when she tries to input that her grandmother’s birth year was 1908, Facebook changes it to 1928 and says “unknown error.”  Joseph “likes” the Detroit Red Wings, gambling, and I Love Lucy.

When she is not on Facebook, she goes to church once per week and takes trips to the casino.  “We are working on a fix for this and we apologize for the inconvenience,” stated a Facebook spokesperson.
