Facebook hires professor Yann LeCun to head up New York research lab

Facebook has announced a new research lab that is focused entirely on artificial intelligence. One of the first hires for the lab is New York University professor Yann LeCun. The goal of the lab is to make advances in social networking and double down in a research partnership with NYU to study machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science.

?The new AI Group at Facebook will have locations in Menlo Park, CA, in London, UK, and at Facebook?s new facility in New York City, one block away from NYU?s main campus,? wrote LeCun on Google+.

Facebook also set up a new research group at the company that is working on a powerful approach to artificial intelligence. The group could help Facebook increase their ad targeting and improve their news feed.

A couple of other artificial intelligence team members at Facebook includes former Google exec Marc?Aurelio Ranzato and Face.com co-founder Yaniv Taigman.
