Facebook’s mobile chat users now required to download Messenger app

Facebook is starting to let users know that they no longer have an option to send/receive messages in the Facebook for iOS and Android apps. Now users will have to download the Facebook Messenger app for chatting on mobile devices.

Facebook’s main apps always had a messaging tab, but then users thane installed the standalone Facebook Messenger app would see a chat tab on their main app replace a hotlink button to allow the user to chat.

Now all iOS and Android users will have a hotlink at the bottom of the Facebook app that will open the Messenger app.

Facebook believes that the Messaging service within its main apps are slow and buried. It sounds like people that use the standalone Facebook Messenger app are having a better experience.
