There is a staggering number of fake accounts on Facebook. According to a 10-Q filing with the SEC, Facebook has acknowledged that 8.7% of their users are fake accounts. That means that there are 83 million fake Facebook users. Of that number about 4.8% are duplicate accounts, 2.4% are user-misclassified accounts, and 1.5% are undesirable spam accounts. This past March, Facebook claimed that about 5-6% of accounts (40.3-50.7 million) were fake. About 20,000 accounts are banned daily and 600,000 accounts are compromised per day.
