Finland Government Drops Piracy Lawsuit Against 9 Year Old

Posted Dec 2, 2012

The Finland government has dropped a copyright lawsuit against the nine year old girl that might have tried to download a music album, but bought it anyway.  The government even went as far as confiscating her Winnie The Pooh laptop.  The girl’s father was asked to pay a civil settlement fee to the music industry, but he decided not do.

He decided to pay up after the police took his young daughter’s possessions.  The man paid the Finnish Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Centre (CIAPC) 600 euros to get rid of the accusations and they ended up settling for half that amount.

“We got an agreement with the girl’s father,” stated Antti Kotilainen of the CIAPC in an interview with YLE Uutiset. “We reversed [the] investigation.”
