Ford and Google Working Together On A New Research Project To Predict Driving Patterns

Posted May 11, 2011

At the Google I/O conference, Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) announced a new research project that they are working on. Ford will be using Google’s prediction API to help drivers save on gas and drive efficiently.

Ford plans on using Google’s prediction APIs to analyze data that they have collected about drivers’ habits. Future Ford cars can optimize routes and will have enhanced performance settings that depend on data in Google’s cloud.

?Anticipating the driver?s destination is just one way that Ford is investigating predicting driver behavior. This information can ultimately be used to optimize vehicle performance attributes such as fuel efficiency and driveability,? stated Ryan McGee, a technical expert on Ford’s Vehicle Controls Architecture and Algorithm Design team.
