Ford Motor Company said that their upcoming plug-in hybrid vehicle, C-Max Energi, will be able to run slightly more than 20 miles on electricity alone. This is more than the 13- mile battery-only range that the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid supports.
The C-Max Energi is able to extend their range to 550 miles when the gas engine kicks in. The 5-passenger vehicle is certified at the equivalent of 95MPG in combined city/highway driving. The pricing of the vehicle is not yet known.
However Ford will offer a $25,995 C-Max hybrid that has a smaller battery pack, which will not be a plug-in. The C-Max is being built in Wayne at the Michigan Assembly Plant.
“Ford’s electrified vehicles offer a great combination of efficiency, performance, technology and affordability that we believe will help spur adoption of these advanced vehicles,” stated Ford director of electrification programs and engineering Kevin Layden.
