General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is hiring Tony Cervone as the new public relations chief at the company. Cervone was the top U.S. spokesman at Volkswagen. Cervone’s position title is senior vice president of communications.
Cervone was previously a communications exec at GM, but he left in 2009. Cervone also headed communications at United Airlines and worked at Chrysler before GM. Cervone succeeds Selim Bingol, who left General Motors last month. Cervone and newly appointed GM CEO Mary Barra worked closely together in communications at GM in the past.
Cervone’s job will be rather difficult because GM is in the midst of a recall, which involves around 11 million cars. GM said that at least 13 people have died due to crashes linked to this problem.
