General Motors global marketing head Joel Ewanick is stepping down from the company. Ewanick, 52, became the head of marketing two years ago. Seven months later, he was hired as the Global Chief Marketing Officer.
This made him in charge of GM’s marketing in Asia, South America, and Europe in order to manage brands like Holden, Opel, and Daewoo. Before joining GM, Ewanick was the U.S. marketing chief at Nissan and was the head of marketing for Hyundai Motor America.
He was credited with creating the Hyundai Assurance sales promotion when working there. Hyundai offered of taking back a buyer’s car if the buyer lost their job within a year of purchase. Alan Batey, VP of U.S. Sales and Service will serve as GM’s interim global chief marketing officer position until a replacement is found.
