Posted Jan 6, 2014

General Motors’ OnStar will be offering 4G high-speed to vehicles with infotainment features soon. OnStar is known for offering drivers with concierge services, roadside assistance, and turn-by-turn directions. The revised service will be available starting this summer.

OnStar will offer a WiFi hot spot, streaming radio, weather, vehicle diagnostics, and other apps through high-speed 4G LTE data connection as provided by AT&T. The first vehicles to get the 4G LTE connection this summer are the Chevrolet Corvette, Impala, Malibu, and Volt. Later this year, the Equinox, Silverado, Spark and Spark EV will also get 4G LTE connectivity.

Buick, Cadillac, and GMC will also get the feature. The passengers of the vehicles can use the connectivity to download videos on their tablets and surf the Internet. Apps can be downloaded from the online GM store without charge, but other connectivity has a fee. GM is going to announce the pricing plans before the 4G LTE launch this summer.
