General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has signed a contract with Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) to produce the Aveo automobile overseas. GAZ is “Russia’s largest producer of commercial vehicles.” GAZ will produce the next-generation Aveo sedans and hatchbacks for the Russian car market. The GAZ Group has 18 production plants across 10 Russian regions.

“The cooperation with GM will strengthen quality and technology of every production capacity of GAZ,” stated GAZ Group president and CEO Bo Andersson. “The decision taken enables GAZ to effectively use the investments in the passenger car facility and to contribute the qualified workforce in the project with GM.” GM plans to debut the new Aveo at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Production of both Aveo versions will begin in Russia mid-2012.
