General Motors Company is not going to be advertising on CBS during the Super Bowl this Sunday February 3rd. However they will be airing ads during the pre-game programming. GM’s Chevy brand will have four spots during that time according to Chevy marketing VP Chris Perry. Last year General Motors Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick said that they will not be advertising during the Super Bowl because of the high cost. Ewanick was fired in July 2012 after an expensive deal was made with Manchester United.
Other automotive companies that will be advertising during Super Bowl include Ford’s Lincoln, Toyota, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Chrysler, etc. CBS has already sold out their inventory for Super Bowl XLVII at prices that average between $3.7 and $3.8 million.
Last year, the average cost of a 60-second commercial on Super Bowl was $7 million. GM will be introducing 20 new vehicles in the United States this year including 13 Chevrolet models. GM spent around $1.17 billion during the first three quarters of last year.
