Posted Nov 22, 2011

General Motors (NYSE:GM) Chief Vehicle Engineer Al Oppenheiser of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has released a statement that addresses Camaro and Ford Mustang fans. Oppenheiser gave the address after Ford announced the new 650-hp 2013 Shelby GT500.

?As you know, the blogs lit up with the announcement of the new 650-horsepower Mustang GT500, and I wanted to give you my perspective on the latest challenge from Dearborn,? stated Oppenheiser in the letter. Oppenheiser said that the Mustang has been playing catch up to the Camaro since its 2009 debut after a long break.

?For Mustang fans, you?re welcome,? said Oppenheiser. ?Clearly the Camaro has encouraged Ford to throw everything they can at us.?

Since the fifth generation Camaro launched in 2009, it has been the best-selling sports car in America. The price of the ZL1 Coupe starts at $54,995. It has Magnetic Ride Control, Performance Traction Management, and standard track-capable equipment.
