Stops Supporting SOPA

Yesterday I wrote about how many customers would be switching away from the service because of the company’s support of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). A post on Reddit went viral that had a call-to-action to make December 29th the day for people to transfer domain names away from GoDaddy.

“Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance, which is why Go Daddy has been working to help craft revisions to this legislation – but we can clearly do better,” stated Go Daddy CEO Warren Adelman. “It’s very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.”

This is why Go Daddy no longer supports SOPA. They believe 100% that the Internet is a key engine for the new economy. Go Daddy General Counsel Christine Jones removed blog posts that outline the support Go Daddy used to have for SOPA.
