Google Acquires Phonetic Arts

Posted Dec 3, 2010

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired voice output company Phonetic Arts. Google has quite a few voice input services like Voice Search, Voice Input, and Voice Actions on mobile devices. It is likely that Google will use the technology made by the Cambridge, England based speech synthesis speech output company to provide the ability for Android applications to provide commentary to users. Earlier this year, Electronic Arts licensed Phonetic’s PA Commentator solution to have different commentary voices for sports games. [Google Blog]
