Google is acquiring Nik Software, a German company known for developing the photography app Snapseed for an undisclosed amount. Nik Software also develops apps for the Mac and Windows like Color Efex Pro and Dfine. Google was most interested in Snapseed, a $4.99 app that won the iPad App Of The Year award in 2011 for their multitouch photo editing interface. They hit over 9 million users in their first year of sale. The company is currently building an Android app too.
“We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone,” stated Google+ exec Vic Gundotra in a blog post. The team will be relocated from German to Google’s HQ in Mountain View to work on Google+
