Apple may have won an injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but Google plans to release a software patch that would avoid infringement. Google said that the patch will be pushed out soon.
Judge Lucy Koh made the decision for the injunction of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. She said that the Galaxy Nexus is likely to infringe on four Apple patents, but the injunction was issued specifically on a patent that is related to universal search.
Google plans to support Samsung in an appeal for the injunction and challenge the universal search patent. Google and Samsung will partner to challenge the validity of the patent and will seek a reexamination by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. They believe that universal search predates the Apple patent.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first device that runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Google gave the Galaxy Nexus to developers last week to test out Jelly Bean, the next version update of Android.
