Google Android Becomes World’s Leading Smart Phone Platform [REPORT]

Market research firm Canalys has announced that the Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system has become the world’s leading smart phone platform. Shipments of the Android surpassed 32.9 million. Nokia was right behind them with 31 million. Nokia retained the position as the leading global smart phone vendor with a 28% market share. Worldwide about 101.2 million smartphones were shipped in the fourth quarter. The U.S. was the largest country market in terms of the number of shipments. RIM took first place from Apple again as the BlackBerry Torch was a popular device. HTC was in third place in the U.S. for the third quarter in a row. [Canalys]
