Google Buys reMail iPhone App and then Shuts It Down

Posted Feb 18, 2010

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired an iPhone application called reMail.  reMail allowed iPhone users to download their GMail e-mail and search through it quickly.  As a result of the acquisition, the reMail iPhone application will be discontinued.  reMail founder Gabor Cselle will be joining the GMail team at Google.  Google would probably use the technology for their own GMail iPhone application.  Cselle previously worked at Google as a software engineer.  reMail was a Y-Combinator company.
