Earlier this week Google Inc. chief financial officer and senior vice president Patrick Pichette spoke at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference and he said something quite candid (yet shocking). Pichette said that Motorola Mobility’s products were not up to Google’s standards and that they inherited a mess due to the acquisition.
“Motorola has a pipeline of products that were fine but not really to the standards that Google would say is wow ? innovative, transformative,” said Pichette. “We’ve inherited 18 months of timeline that we actually have to drain right now.”
The silver lining to the acquisition is that Motorola “has a great set of assets.” When Google acquired Motorola, they gained ownership of over 17,000 additional patents. Some of Motorola’s most popular phones include the Droid RAZR M and the Droid RAZR Maxx HD.
