Google Chrome is now the leading browser in the U.S., according to the Adobe Digital Index report. Google Chrome surpassed Microsoft Internet Explorer, which was the dominant browser for years. The Adobe Digital Index based the rankings on web traffic samplings of desktop and mobile devices from data collected from 10,000 U.S. consumer-facing websites in April 2014.
Google’s Chrome and Android browsers accounted for 31.8% of all browser usage in the U.S. in the month of April, which is up from 26% in the previous year. Microsoft Internet Explorer saw 30.9% browser usage for the same time period, which is down from 37% a year ago. In third place was Apple Safari. Safari accounted for a combined 25% of desktop and mobile share. Mozilla Firefox’s market share dropped to 8.7% from 20% two years ago.
Microsoft Internet Explorer is the dominant browser in terms of desktop usage at 43% compared to Chrome’s 31%. Apple Safari is the leader in the mobile devices market at 59%.
