According to the NPD Group, Chromebooks accounted for about 21% of all notebook sales and almost 10% of all computer sales through November. Tablets accounted for over 22% of all personal computing device sales through the end of last month and Windows tablet sales almost tripled compared to the same period one year ago. Android tablet sales jumped over 160% during the same period. Apple maintains tablet market domination with around 59% of the market.
?The market for personal computing devices in commercial markets continues to shift and change,? stated Stephen Baker, VP of industry analysis at NPD. ?New products like Chromebooks, and reimagined items like Windows tablets, are now supplementing the revitalization that iPads started in personal computing devices. It is no accident that we are seeing the fruits of this change in the commercial markets as business and institutional buyers exploit the flexibility inherent in the new range of choices now open to them.?
Windows notebooks showed no growth over 2012, but Windows desktops increased by nearly 10%. Apple’s sales for notebooks and desktops combined fell around 7%.
