Google Creates An Alternate Reality Game Called Ingress

Google subsidiary Niantic Project has created a new alternate reality game called Ingress.  Ingress is available in beta mode on the Google Play Store.  Ingress is an augmented reality game that uses the GPS on the smartphone to create an alternate version of the real world.

“Move through the real world using your Android device and the Ingress app to discover and tap sources of this mysterious energy. Acquire objects to aid in your quest, deploy tech to capture territory, and ally with other players to advance the cause of the Enlightened or the Resistance,” states the description of the app.  “The struggle is being played out globally. Track the progress of players around the world, plan your next steps, and communicate with others using an Intelligence map.”

Players are able to capture nearby building areas located with your GPS and they can work together to capture multiple close-by areas to expand their territory.  You will have to “fight” to gain other territories.
