Wael Ghonim is the Google head of marketing for the middle east. Ghonim is now missing as he flew into Egypt last week to participate in the riots against the government. He wrote an ominous tweet that said “we are all ready to die” before going missing. According to CBS, Ghonim has been “symbolically” named the spokesman for the opposition group as an attempt to have him freed.
The Egyptian government is not commenting about whether they have him or not. Many people believe that Ghonim is being held, but Google has no idea where he is. The protest where Ghonim was captured was organized by the April 6 movement. The April 6 movement is a youth movement that started 3 years ago in Egypt. April 6 named him as the spokesman.
The Egyptian government said that they want to talk to opposition groups. The April 6 leader said that the government needs to go through their spokesman. Google has set up a hotline and an e-mail address if anyone knows about Wael’s whereabouts: +44 20 7031 3008 and firstname.lastname@example.org.
