Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is reportedly working with Foxconn on various robotics projects, according to sources with The Wall Street Journal. Foxconn is best known for being the manufacturing company behind iPhones and iPads. Foxconn has been working with former Android head Andy Rubin since last year to help build out his vision for robotics.
In fact, Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou met with Andy Rubin in Taipei recently to speed up robot deployment. Gou reportedly was excited about new automation technologies that Rubin demonstrated. Rubin asked Gou to help integrate technology that Google is acquiring.
Google has built up a large department around Rubin’s vision and acquired eight robotics companies last year, including Boston Dynamics. Foxconn has over one million workers that focuses on electronics assembly.
Foxconn chairman said that they aim to build robots to ramp up their manufacturing efforts. Google is expected to build a new robotic operating system for manufacturers.
