At the I/O developer conference, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced that it is hitting over 1 billion monthly active users on the Android platform. This is up from 538 million from last year’s I/O conference.
Google previously measured Android usage in total device activations, but it is switching to a 30-day active stat, which is a much bigger deal.
This past September, Google announced reaching 1 billion total activations and it hit 900 million activations in May. Android app installs increased 236% from last year.
At last year’s keynote, Google announced 48 billion total app downloads across the platform. Android now powers 62% of tablets this year, which is up from 46% last year and 39% two years ago. Google Chrome now has 300 million monthly active users.
