Google Inc (GOOG): Google Shopping is updated with feed specification

Posted Jun 20, 2014

Google has updated the Google Shopping Products feed specification. The update gives merchants and advertisers refinements and options when specifying their product data in their feed. Here are some of the updates that were made to the Google Shopping Feed Specification:

– Mobile landing page – Links should be submitted separately to direct mobile shoppers to the right experience

– Merchant-defined bundles – Bundles like a camera with additional cases and lens must now be identified to be displayed appropriately on Google Shopping

– Apparel attributes – Apparel attributes have been added to allow more detailed descriptions of your apparel products

– Item availability – The availability of items are now simplified to allow a clearer distinction between different availability states

– Mandatory character limits – This is clearly state for each attribute to help the right product information being displayed.

“Along with attribute updates, we are also revising image quality recommendations and creating a new landing page policy as part of the feed specification update,” said Google in a blog post. “Beginning September 30, we will start enforcing the updated feed specification globally, but merchants can submit the new attributes immediately.”
