Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has signed a large customer for Google Apps, Whirlpool Corporation.  Whirlpool has 66 facilities around the world.  Whirlpool’s employees will be using Google’s cloud e-mail, Google Docs, and Google Apps.  Google will be replacing IBM Lotus Notes.  There are currently 5 million businesses that use Google Apps.  Most of them are small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Google Apps’ most aggressive competitor is Microsoft.  Microsoft said that Office 365 is the “fastest growing product” in company history.  Office 365 is expected to generate $1.5 billion per year.  Microsoft said that they convinced 430 customers to switch back after using Google Apps, according to BusinessInsider.

?We?re trying to shift the whole culture to be consumer-focused,? stated Whirlpool Corporation CIO Michael Heim.  ?This move into a true cloud environment sets us up to work internally with teams.?

This deal is a 5 year contract that supports Whirlpool’s 30,000 employees.  It is believed that Google will make $7.5 million over five years based on a company the size of Whirlpool.
