Posted Oct 9, 2011

Intellectual Ventures has recently sued Motorola over a patent dispute for Android. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is in the process of acquiring Motorola Mobility. Google is also an investor in Intellectual Ventures so they are getting sued by a company in which they are an owner.

Intellectual Ventures operates as a group of investment funds. Google invested in the Defendant Invention Investment Fund I. Motorola is being sued by Intellectual Ventures Fund I and Fund II.

The investors in those two funds includes Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and Nokia Corporation. Nokia and Apple recently settled a patent conflict themselves. Other technology companies involved in the Fund I and Fund II includes Sony, Cisco, and Verizon. However it should not be assumed that investors are involved with day-to-day decisions made by Intellectual Ventures.
