Google Is Working On A Home Entertainment System Device

In the home of about 252 employees, Google is testing out home entertainment devices. According to sources with the WSJ, the device will wirelessly stream music throughout people’s homes. Apparently this device would most likely compete directly against Sonos.

Google previously tried to make devices for the living room such as the Google TV. However this would be the first time Google would be developing and selling products under their own name rather than relying on external hardware vendors.

According to an FCC filing, the at-home beta testing was meant to accomplish the following:

Testing throughput and stability of home WiFi networks using an entertainment device. Testing will include functional testing of all subsystems, including WiFi and Bluetooth radio. Users will connect their device to home WiFi networks and use Bluetooth to connect to other home electronics equipment.
