Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has launched a new digital reader application with organized content called Google Currents. Google Currents runs on Android smartphones, Android tablets, iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad. Google Currents will be competing against other apps like FLUD, Yahoo! Livestand, Flipboard, AOL Editions, etc.

Currents will have an advertising platform to help them generate revenue for themselves and their content partners. Google said that they could sell about 70% of ad space. They would pay out a minimum amount of revenue for certain participating publishers.

Google is working with over 150 publishers on Currents including Forbes, The Huffington Post, and PBS. Currents is highly integrated with Google’s social network Google+.
