Google has introduced a new version of the Google Maps app to include mobile advertisements in the form of local ads. When a Google Maps app users searches for a location, they will be shown an ad at the bottom of the screen that includes a title of a business that is nearby there. Google Maps will also offer directions to that business. When swiping or tapping the ad, it will show additional details about that business like the website, address, store hours, reviews, etc.
“Paid clicks include the initial ‘get location details’ click, get directions, click-to-call and clicks on the ad headline. AdWords will only charge for up to two paid clicks per ad impression. Reporting for these paid clicks can be found by segmenting reports in your account by ?click type,?” stated Google on the AdWords Blog.
If a business wants to be included in this form of advertising, they will need to add location extensions in their AdWords campaigns or set up ads through AdWords Express. The update will appear in the Google Maps app for Android and iOS.
