Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) opened their offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan about 2 years ago. Since then, Google has been very active in the Ann Arbor community. According to Julie Miller, an AdWords strategist in Ann Arbor, Google will be hosting classes at Washtenaw Community College. Google will also be hosting classes at two of my alma maters: Michigan State University and Huron High School.
The classes will be a cross between digital media and social work. Students will learn how to help nonprofit groups use online advertising to their advantage. This philanthropic program may also be integrated at Google’s offices in Mountain View, Boston, and London.
This program originally launched at Community High School in Ann Arbor and at Eastern Michigan University. The Ann Arbor Film Festival is one of the nonprofit organizations that received help from an EMU student to promote their campaign on AdWords.
This year at Huron High, about 20 students will be able to learn from Google how to prepare an AdWords campaign according to Karen Eisley, a Business and Health Education coordinator at Huron High.
“This is important because more and more sales these days are being done online. … One of my jobs at Huron is to help these kids find jobs in the community, and this is just another spin-off of that,” stated Ms. Eisley.
