Google Names Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’

Today Google has named the Android mobile operating system 4.4 “KitKat.”  The Google Android operating system has been traditionally been named after desserts like Jelly Bean, Gingerbread, Cupcake, Key Lime Pie, and Froyo.  The is the first time that Google is naming the operating system after a branded candy.  Google is not violating any trademarks in this case.

“KitKat has been a favorite candy on the team for some time, so for the K release, we asked if they?d be willing to lend their iconic candy bar to its name,” stated a Google spokesperson in an interview with Mashable.  Money was not exchanged in this deal.

Google and Hershey Co. believes that this is a great cross-promotional opportunity.  Android 4.4 is being named KitKat and Hersey is going to place the green alien Android logo on their packaging.
