Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) will be offering support to companies that are involved in legal disputes over Android said executive chairman Eric Schmidt. Schmidt mentioned the support that Google will be giving to companies during a wrap-up as part of a three-city tour in Taipei. Schmidt also said that Google “wanted to serve China’s citizens within the limits the government allowed.”
“We tell our partners, including the ones here in Taiwan, we will support them. For example we have been supporting HTC in its dispute with Apple because we think that the Apple thing is not correct,” said Schmidt.
Support includes information sharing, industry expertise, and access to Google patents for legal purposes. Google is already providing support to Samsung Electronics and HTC Corp. Both of these companies are involved in patent disputes with Apple Inc. Analysts believe that these lawsuits are Apple’s way of attacking Android directly. This belief was supported by a quote in Steve Jobs’ authorized biography that said he wanted to “destroy” Android to become the most popular smartphone platform.
