Leaderboards, Achievements, and Matchmaking Confirmed On Google Play Games

At Google I/O, Google confirmed that leaderboards, achievements, and matchmaking features are coming to Google Play.  The new features are similar to Apple’s Game Center and it allows developers to add the aforementioned services into Google Playalong with the ability to save game data to the cloud.

Some of Google Play’s early partners include Glu, Miniclip, Gameloft, and Ironhide Games.  Google Play’s game services are cross-platform and can be integrated into applications on Android 2.2+ along with iOS and web apps.

By launching the ability to save game progress on the cloud, Google can offload the work by game developers.  Players can also share game achievements with their friends through the leader boards.
