Google+ Starts To Rollout Vanity URLs, Trolls The Oatmeal

Google’s social network, Google+ now has vanity URLs to allow users to make it easy to find their profile pages.  Currently the profile pages of Google+ users have a long number string.  The personalized vanity URLs will be “available to people and pages worldwide,” but a specific date has not been made yet.

?At first, we?re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time, we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals,? said Google’s Saurabh Sharma.

This summer, creator Matthew Inman created a comic with this line: “Google+ is reportedly used by fifth quadzillion people.  Yet this is what most of the comment threads seem to look like.”  He showed a screenshot of one of his posts and there is a cricket chirping as the response.

Inman also criticized Google+ for not be able to sent up a proper profile URL so that he does not have to link people to thimbleturdorgasm99meatpoopypoopxv9donkeypie, which is obviously a long string of random characters.
