Last month we wrote about how Facebook found a way to issue updates to their Android app without having to go through the Google Play application store. Google has now updated their terms and conditions to ensure that no other developers try to circumvent the Google Play store.
“An app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play’s update mechanism,” stated Google in their “Dangerous Products” section.
Facebook suggested that they were only pushing the updates to users that allowed non-Play store downloads to their phones. Facebook also notified the users that the update was available.
