Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Samsung are close-knit partners already. Samsung is the top manufacturer and distributor of devices that powered by the Android operating system. Now the Google and Samsung  partnership is going to strengthen through a global patent-licensing deal.

?We?re pleased to enter into a cross-license with our partner Samsung,? stated Allen Lo, the deputy general counsel for patents at Google. ?By working together on agreements like this, companies can reduce the potential for litigation and focus instead on innovation.?

This agreement will include current patents and patents that are filed between the two companies over the next 10 years.

“Samsung and Google are showing the rest of the industry that there is more to gain from cooperating than engaging in unnecessary patent disputes,? added Seungho Ahn, the head of Samsung?s Intellectual Property Center.

Samsung has been in an intense patent battle against Apple so this partnership will be important going forward. Samsung has been unfavored in the courts and has received steep fines.
