Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) reported that hackers in China had launched a phishing campaign to gain access to personal Gmail accounts of hundreds of people. Some of the accounts that were hacked include U.S. government officials.

Google said that they were able to disrupt the hack, but they believe that hackers were still able to monitor the accounts of Chinese political activists. Google said that the hack was not because of internal system failures or security problems.

In a blog post, Google listed some ways for users to add extra security to protect their private information. Google suggested users to switch to the Google Chrome browser.
