Evan Rapoport, the product manager for Photo Sphere at Google’s Street View division, announced today that Google Maps has a new Street View Trekker partner, the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureau. The Bureau will be working with Google to add trails and volcanoes in Hawaii to Google Street View.
Google is allowing a Hawaii based trail guide company borrow their Trekker cameras to capture panoramic images of the Big Island. The photos will be added to Google Street View within Google Maps and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau website gohawaii.com.
The Hawaii Forest & Trail hikers will walk through over 20 state and national park trails on the Big Island by September. The images are expected to be online by the end of the year or in early 2014.
