Google Translate Mobile Version Now Available On iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted Aug 12, 2008

Allen Hutchison and David Singleton, a couple of Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) engineers realized that there is a lack of portable language dictionaries on the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone/iPod Touch.  This was discovered as Hutchinson was making a trip to Austria and Italy.  Hence the creation of the Google Translate mobile version for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Google Translate for the iPhone/iPod Touch supports all of the language pairs that are available on the web-based version.  Google Translate also uses a client-side data-storage technique to quickly pull-up translation query history.  Google Translate was created using an AJAX Language API.  Everytime a new language is added to the Web-based version, it will automatically be added to the iPhone version.

To access the iPhone/iPod Touch version, navigate to translate.google.com on the iPhone/iPod Touch browser.
