Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is working on a Siri competitor according to sources with AndroidAndMe.com. Currently Google’s Siri response has the code-name Majel, which is named after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry (The voice of the Federation Computer from Star Trek).
Majel utilizes technology from Google’s Voice Actions service built into Android devices. Voice Actions requires you to say specific commands like “send text to?” or “navigate to?” Majel will allow you to say commands in natural languages.
In the initial release, it sounds like Google search queries will be supported for right now. This feature is expected to be rolled into a new major release of Android in January or February.
