GraphLab Raises $6.75 Million

is an open-source distributed database that has raised $6.75 million from Madrona Venture Group and New Enterprise Associates.  The company uses machine learning technology to analyze data graphs for recommendation engines.

GraphLab was developed Carnegie Mellon University five years ago.  GraphLab’s open-source data analysis platform uses semi-structured data that describes the relationship between people, product purchases, and web traffic.  The company analyzes this data for services to give online recommendations.

GraphLab CEO Dr. Carlos Guestrin is a professor of Machine Learning at the University of Washington.  He developed the technology at Carnegie Mellon.  GraphLab is used by many large companies like Pandora and Walmart to drive millions of transactions.
