Greater Manchester Police Is Tweeting Personal Information About Looters

Posted Aug 11, 2011

The police believe that social media played a prominent role in the riots that took place in Great Britain. Now they are using social media to fight back. The Greater Manchester Police is now tweeting the personal information of some of the looters.

The Greater Manchester Police may be doing this simply to make sure to let people know that they are arresting looters and punishing them accordingly. The UK government is currently considering whether it makes sense to block access to social media during times of “emergency.” The police is currently using Flickr to identify looters. And RIM said that they plan to comply with the police about the use of BBM during the riots.
