HackerOne is a startup that was founded by the former head of Facebook’s security team. The company has announced it had received $9 million in Series A funding. Former Microsoft lead security strategist Katie Moussouris is joining HackerOne as Chief Policy Officer.

HackerOne was founded by Alex Rice (CTO) and Merijn Terheggen (CEO). Hackerone helps companies by providing a platform to share security and bug information. The logic behind the company is that the more people that use a program or service, the more likely it is to find an issue.

HackerOne has a platform that gives companies an organized way to set up bug tracking programs. The users that find bugs can be offered monetary rewards through the platform as well. HackerOne receives 20% of any bounty payment if and when a payment is made.

The $9 million round of funding was provided by Benchmark. Bill Gurley from Benchmark will be joining the board of directors at HackerOne.
