How To Delete The Trojan.ISTbar

Posted Jun 22, 2010

The Trojan.ISTbar is a Trojan virus that has been spreading on the Internet Explorer web browser.  The Trojan was supposedly created by a company that is called Integrated Search Technologies.  I chose not to link to them out of disapproval of what their company does.  The toolbar redirects Internet searches and adds a bunch of adware to PCs. Sometimes getting rid of the Trojan.ISTbar is as easy as running Windows Defender, but if you do not have Internet access – there are other ways of deleting the Trojan.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Start the task manager and click on the Processes tab.

2. End the following processes:

3. Now click on the Start menu and type in “regedit” in the Search Programs and Files box. Press enter and look for the following keys in the Windows Registry Editor.

4. Be extremely careful here because if you delete the wrong keys, you may cause major errors to the PC. Delete the following registry values:
“Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\Power Scan”
“Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\ISTsvc”
“Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\ISTbar”

5. Close the Windows Registry Editor. Now click on the Start Menu and type in “cmd” to open up the Windows Command Prompt. Type in the following commands and hit enter:
“regsvr32 /u nem220[1].dll”
“regsvr32 /u mscb.dll”
“regsvr32 /u msbe.dll”
“regsvr32 /u 453mbirn.dll”
“regsvr32 /u cmctl[1].dll”
“regsvr32 /u cmctl.dll”
“regsvr32 /u vic32.dll”
“regsvr32 /u ysbactivex.dll”
“regsvr32 /u flashplayer.dll”
“regsvr32 /u gzlib.dll”
“regsvr32 /u srchbar.dll”
“regsvr32 /u istbar.dll”
“regsvr32 /u iesearchbar.dll”
“regsvr32 /u istbar_mainstream[1].dll”

6. Close the Windows Command Prompt and search for the following files in the Search Files and Folders box in the Start menu. As you find each file, delete them:
“Power Scan.lnk”
