Report: Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ) Wants To Sell Mobile Patents

Posted Oct 24, 2013

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) is known as one of the largest PC makers in the world that attempted to get into the smartphone market a couple years ago by acquiring Palm in April 2010.  HP’s integration of Palm’s webOS was not very successful so they sold the technology to LG at a major loss.

However, Hewlett Packard is now rumored to be in the market for a patent sale.  HP did not sell the patents related to webOS to LG.  Instead, they licensed the patents to LG.

According to SlashGear, HP has approached several potential buyers for the patent portfolio and removed restrictive conditions for a quicker sale to happen.  Likely one of the potential buyers is LG themselves since they are already licensing the patents.
